Re:    Reappointing FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein

Dear President Bush:

The reappointment of Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein to a full term at the Federal Communications Commission has been pending approval for a year and a half.  Since you appointed him in 2002 to one of the Democratic seats on this vital commission responsible for assuring the public interest in the communications industry, Mr. Adelstein has done an outstanding job.

Not only is there strong bipartisan support in Congress for his reappointment, he was recently described by Norman Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute as "thoughtful, hard-working, straightforward, knowledgeable, insightful, capable of helping us navigate through the difficult issues of the communications age," and someone who "meets every reasonable criterion for appointment."

I urge you to reappoint Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein before the Congress adjourns in early October allowing him to continue his excellent work at the FCC, an agency critical to the functioning of our democracy.

Sincerely,
